Anyone who has climbed Huashan knows that the "plank walk" is essentially just a tourist attraction, and it's mostly young people who enjoy a cheap thrill up there.
The regular folks usually start climbing Huashan at midnight, to quietly enjoy the spectacular sunrise on one of the peaks.

By: penitent2401. on 23 Jul 10, 11:12:17 for those wondering if this is dangerous? it's not 100% safe, those guide chains nailed to the cliff walls have been there for years, there's ice (water) to make them rust a little and very slippery. if few of those nails pops out or the safety harness slips, don't bother praying. but it's not that dangerous when you see people climbing cliffs on their own with only a couple ropes and whatever climbing gear they can carry on them.

It's painful when they say that they can't hike due to a job offer right out of college. My opinion is that you've been in school for the last 16 years, (17 if you count kindergarten) TAKE A BREAK. Hike the trail, it looks awesome on a resume anyway. Those jobs will still be there when you finish, you're going to be working for the next 40 years, it can wait. :)

Sorry, but I don't agree with this video. Anyone who has climbed Huashan knows that the "plank walk" is essentially just a tourist attraction, and it's mostly young people who enjoy a cheap thrill up there. The regular folks usually start climbing Huashan at midnight, to quietly enjoy the spectacular sunrise on one of the peaks. My question: does gonzo journalism have to be ignorant?

for those wondering if this is dangerous? it's not 100% safe, those guide chains nailed to the cliff walls have been there for years, there's ice (water) to make them rust a little and very slippery. if few of those nails pops out or the safety harness slips, don't bother praying. but it's not that dangerous when you see people climbing cliffs on their own with only a couple ropes and whatever climbing gear they can carry on them.
