But i tried making a cake and i did a crumb coat first and then put it in the fridge for about a half an hour, took it out, and did a final coating with bright orange frosting and i still got some crumbs in it. Do you have any suggestions? :)

By: anteater94. on 07 Aug 10, 02:54:23 @littlebaker1, you can frost the outside of a cake with a thin layer of icing (like a buttercream that is just thick enough to spread on it). that's what is called a 'crumb coat'. Once it has set you can put on whatever icing you want and it will be smooth and crumb free :D hope that helps!
