He and Elena are captured by Kadaj's gang in the beginning when the Turks are retrieving Jenova's head at the Northern Crater. The two are then tortured "to near death" by Kadaj's gang and rescued by Vincent. We later see them looking quite healthy as they rescue Rufus from his fall off the building, and then again when the healing rain is falling and Rufus is healed. (At least I'm pretty sure that's them.)
